Authorised Gas Tester (AGT) Course

The AGT role is critical in testing for and ensuring safe working atmospheres, in particular: permit controlled confined spaces, and prior to and during hot work for both open and enclosed spaces. It will enable one to read and interpret correctly information as obtained from the gas detection means available. The following courses are available:

OPITO-Certified AGT Level 1, contact time: 12-hours

OPITO-Certified AGT Level 2, contact time: 7-hours

OPITO-Certified AGT Level 3, contact time: 4-hours

OPITO-Certified AGT Combined Level contact time: 15-hours

Certifications come with competency tests at end of sessions (80% passing mark). Upon deemed competent, each participant shall be qualified to receive a Certificate and Training ID card, valid for 3 years. Certificate is recognized within worldwide industries.

AGT Level 1 is required for those involved with performing a test for oxygen, flammable and toxic gases up to, and including working in confined spaces.
(NOTE: Persons undertaking Standby/Safety Watch duties at the entrance to a confined space shall be an AGT Level 1 Gas Tester.)
AGT Level 2 is required for those involved with testing for flammable gas in preparation for hot work (in open spaces).
(if conducted within confined spaces: need also AGT Level 1 certification)
AGT Level 3 is required for those who provide safety watch duties by the ongoing monitoring of a hot work site (in open spaces).
(if conducted within confined spaces: need also AGT Level 1 certification)
AGT Combined Level all conducted in 2-days. It will be a combined course delivery, and candidates will be provided with total (3) separate certificates, ie. AGT Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3.
NOTE: AGT Levels 1, 2 & 3 holds three separate work responsibilities.

Job scopes requiring ‘Authorised Gas Tester’ certifications:-

AGT level 1 (activities involving ‘confined spaces’)

confined space entry (for inspection, repair, cleanup, maintenance, painting, etc.)
‘rescue operations’
‘hotwork’ (ie. welding, gas-cutting, grinding, gouging, drilling, chipping, etc.)
‘fire-watchmen’ for ongoing hotwork
‘fire-watchmen’ for ‘hotwork penetration’ on adjacent tanks
‘excavation’
‘odorant house’
‘underground openings’

AGT level 2 (activities in ‘open spaces’) approver for:-

‘leak detection’
‘hot-tapping’
‘hotwork’ within open deck/platform, designated workshop
‘commissioning/de-commissioning’
‘oils spills’
‘pipe flushing’
‘dismantling pipes/valves’
‘bunkering’
‘oil transferring’
‘chemical cleaning’

AGT level 3 (‘fire-watchmen’ in ‘open spaces’)

for ongoing ‘hotwork’ activities with additional ‘fire-fighting training’ competency program

Rutledge has been aprroved by OPITO to conduct the Authorised Gas Tester (AGT) Course Levels 1, 2 and 3. The AGT role is critical in testing for and ensuring safe working atmospheres, in particular: permit controlled confined spaces, and prior to and during hot work for both open and enclosed spaces. It will enable one to read and interpret correctly information as obtained from the gas detection means available.

We believe in bringing people home safely after work. With the inclusion of AGT courses in our training curriculum, we are one step closer to provide a holistic development for working safely in an oil field environment.

SOGAT 2012

Rutledge participated together with AMGAS in the SOGAT 2012 Exhibition held from the 26th to 29th of March. Sour Oil & Gas Advanced Technology or SOGAT is the annual gathering of the best brains for Sour Oil and Gas technology in the Oil & Gas industry.The event drew delegates from all over the world to Abu Dhabi.

Workshops were held during the period to discuss on topics such as “H2S Safety”, “Sulphur Recovery”, “Sour Gas Treatment and Effective Management” and much more. Rutledge and AMGAS were also privileged to have a booth in the exhibition to showcase our products, services and share our experiences with all the other delegates present.

Through participation of SOGAT and similar events, we hope to share our 30 over years of experience with the rest of the industry.
